Thomas Kennedy began the creation of The Avery-Stripes imagining what the type of people in his favourite books might be like in more recent times, in order to write of characters similar to those in the novels of Mitford, Benson and Waugh. He wanted to involve Englishness, eccentricity, snobbery, humour, perseverance and romance. He lives in West London.
