A retelling of Greek myths is combined here with a comprehensive account of the world in which the myths developed - their themes, their relevance to Greek religion and society, and their relationship to the landscape.
Reviews
Engrossing and lavishly illustrated, this survey demonstrates once again why Greek mythology is so enduringly popular.... Buxton's engagingly written blend of erudition and insight makes these primordial tales seem fresh again.
I am undecided whether to regret paying the price of this book. It is a very good book, i'm just partly disappointed that it's not much into storytelling, but more on the technicalities and practicalities of greek mythology. However, it has very good pictures and illustrations. Although, it is not as complete as it say. I had older books that contained stories and accounts that this book do not have, so it's not as complete as it say. I suggest, before you buy it, try finding a copy in the local library, and then see for yourself.
