An absolute modern day classic, this book is appropriate for children from young toddlers to older preschoolers. Toddlers will love to lift the flap to see what animal is hiding underneath. Older pre readers easily catch on to the phrasing of the book and will 'read' the entire book along with you. If you are reading this book with a group of preschoolers there are lots of opportunities to imagine 'what animal from the zoo would you like to keep as a pet?' and to think of all the problems that might occur if you did. If you find a child or a group who particularly loves this book there is a follow up book called 'Dear Santa' that follows the same pattern. You might even like to make your own book together about the animals that you would ask the zoo for. So many possibilities, a must have book for families and preschool settings.
This is my all time favourite book. The children love it. Children love to help me by flipping and making different sound of each animal. There are so much opportunities and possibilities using this book to extend their learning.
Strongly recommend this book to be used with young children developing their language skills.
My children both loved this book from about thirteen months of age, but it appeals to children up to five or six.
