About the Author

Dr. Iain Corness has had a varied and colourful life. Born in Northern Ireland, his birth certificate is stamped Lisburn Poor Law Institute, so he can really claim he was born in the work house. He does not claim Irish nationality, however, as he was only there for the first three months of his life. If you're born in a stable, it doesn't make you a horse,A" says Dr. Iain. For the next 14 years he lived in Scotland, but in 1955 emigrated to Australia with his family, immigrants being called 10 pound Poms by the Aussies. There he learned to speak through his nose, and is thought of as a true blue Aussie. He is a medical doctor and has worked in the UK, Europe and Australia, before coming to Thailand nine years ago, where he is employed as a consultant at the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

Reviews

The good doctor tours the back paths of Thai culture where expats often become lost. In this collection we find the author diagnosing the ailments many expat suffer from in their Thai sojourn. Sensibly the stories delight the reader and while not a cure for ennui, they are the right prescription-take two tablets of good humour and three of patience, and turn in for the night. Tomorrow, if you are an expat, you will feel better for having read this book. Christopher G Moore.
