About the Author

Ricky Burns has been an avid restorer of motorcycles since the 1970s, having personally restored many classic motorbikes from that era - small Yamaha 2-strokes all the way up to large multi-cylinder machines. Deciding to share his experience and knowledge of classic motorcycle restoration with like-minded enthusiasts, Ricky penned his first book, Beginners guide to motorcycle restoration which was quickly followed by several other restoration guides. Aiming to connect with all the classic off-road enthusiasts out there, he has now dedicated his evenings to off-road motorcycle restoration, and in doing so creating this book.

Reviews

In short, it's very much a hands-on look at everything you might need to do, or at least consider, if you want to get mobile on the dirt and flick some serious mud in someone's eye ... You'll probably read it once for the broader picture, and then once more for the detail, and then again when you actually get started in the workshop. Sump Do not let the title of this book put you off if you only ride road bikes, as it is one of the best books I've read detailing just about everything on working on classic motorcycles whether on or off road. Nacelle. The pre-amble says that the book is 'aimed at the beginner and seasoned motorbike restorer alike', but the emphasis is definitely on the beginner, with tips on sourcing parts, how to dismantle your project bike, cleaning and polishing, then it's on to the meatier stuff like rebuilding engines, fuel and ignition systems, paintwork and plating. - Old Bike Australasia. A book focusing on the nuances of restoring dirt bikes as opposed to roadsters is a welcome addition to an enthusiast's bookshelf and even after just an initial flick through it is clear author Ricky Burns has made a decent job of the book. - Classic Dirt Bike. This book is not only intended for owners of off-road engines from the 70s and 80s, but is also relevant for engines from the 50s and 60s. Step-by-step Burns guides the enthusiast with the purchase of special tools and their use, and the possible alternatives for this. Detailed with many photos and in simple and understandable English. – Het Moborrijwiel.
