My husband is a keen LEGO user and now has a significant amount of basic LEGO and Technic. We bought this book thinking it would give him and the children additional ideas of things they could build. We thought it would be similar to the booklets that used to come with the LEGO basic block sets.
We couldn't have been more wrong. We were so disappointed, almost all the creations in the book would require us to acquire significant additional pieces, many of them reasonably unique and not useful in general builds. We found the book to be interesting only to look at what could be made rather than inspiring us to make items from the book. After all with so much LEGO already we don't want to be buying a heap more.
Would only recommend if interested in looking at pictures of things other people have made. In addition, age is probably more 8+ rather than 5+

When I purchased this book, I thought that Lego had gone the extra mile producing a publication that could fertilise my sons imagination a bit more and help him build some other creations.
Unfortunately the book is a bit specific and requires the builder to have some exact or specific pieces and doesn't cater for a typical or generic collection of blocks and pieces.
The book doesn't help mix and match other blocks to make a new creation very well and I couldn't recommend it for other parents. There are some great ideas however; but you would need to have fairly formidable lego collection to make the most of the ideas contained within.
A bit disapointed overall

I expected the book to include step by step instructions on how to create some of the projects, so was a little disappointed that it was just lovely pretty pictures of the designs. That said, my nephew has spent hours reading it, and it has inspired him to make some of his own creations similiar to the complex ones in the book.

Not overly impressed I though that this book would be one that gave the kid's idea's on every day lego blocks - but there is alot of creations in this book we you need specific blocks..... My son may get one or two idea's out of this but without me buying him a WHOLE LOT of new Lego - (suppose the is the idea from Lego) :)

As the title says this book gives ideas about using the lego you may have. It does not give detaled plans but would be enjoyed by any lego enthusiast who likes to create.

My seven year old son has reached a "Lego" point in his budding building career that a change was needed. We purchased the Lego Ideas Book to help him develop new building concepts. This book is very graphic, full of magical ideas and is aimed at the child that enjoys being creative and challenged.A fabulous book aimed at all ages and gender.
