Gerard Hindmarsh trained as a cartographer, before moving to Golden Bay in 1976, where he has lived ever since on his land at Tukurua on the edge of Kahurangi National Park. He began working as a journalist in 1991, and for many years was National Radio's Asian Correspondent on Kim Hill's 'Nine to Noon' show. His previous books include the acclaimed Angelina: From Stromboli to D'Urville Island, Swamp Fever, and Kahurangi Calling.
