Nobel Prize winner Lech Walesa, born on September 29, 1943 in Poland, was the head of the Solidarity Labor Union fighting for worker's rights. A leader in the liberation of Poland from the Communist Regime, Walesa went on to serve as the President of the Republic of Poland. He has been awarded many honors including the Medal of Freedom, and the European award for human rights.
