Preface by Nathan Fillion Introduction by Tyler Shields Foreword by Andrea Blanch Floating Dreaming, Pretending Remembering Cavorting Disturbing Wanting

About the Author

Tyler Shields was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Known as Hollywood's favorite photographer," the L.A.-based contemporary artist and filmmaker has evolved from the bad boy of photography" with his controversial blood-stained photographic series featuring Lindsay Lohan to a more mature artist whose work explores the collective gaze, power structures, hyper-realism, and cinematographic practice. He has worked with a roster of ranking members of Hollywood. Tyler's previous book is The Dirty Side of Glamour (It Books, 2011). Shields resides in Los Angeles, California. Andrea Blanch is an award-winning fashion, fine art, and conceptual photographer. Referred to as "the woman who knows how to capture a woman," her work has been published in G.Q, Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, the New York Times, Esquire, and Rolling Stone. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of Musee Magazine. Blanch currently teaches at the International Center for Photography. She lives in New York City. Nathan Fillion is a Canadian actor who is best known for his role as Richard Castle on the ABC series Castle, as well as his earlier portrayal as the fan favorite Captain Malcom Reynolds in the Joss Whedon series Firefly. Fillion was featured in Tyler Shield's photographic exhibition entitled Historic Fiction. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Reviews

Dubbed Hollywood's Favorite Photographer," Shields is known for his feather-ruffling, boundary-pushing photography. This collection of his most compelling work includes a preface by actor Nathan Fillion and a foreword by fellow photographer Andrea Blanch. Publishers Weekly "Provocateur features some of Shields' most compelling work to date. Tyler pushes his subjects often the young elite of Hollywood and himself, to the limits, going well outside usual comfort zones." -- Ruth Styles Daily Mail And while the photographer himself might not describe his work as gloriously twisted," his aesthetic is certainly a unique one, with photos of Josh Hutcherson covered in mud, Teen Wolf star Holland Roden as a Marie Antoinette-esque royal and another of her as a 1960s woman reacting to the news of President John F. Kennedy's assassination dotting his CV. -- Alex Heigl People Magazine The photos range from artistic and elevated, with black-and-white portraits, to admirably racy... Maxim As single frames of motion pictures, his works are certainly a special blend. Their DNA often contains the recognisable lurid dreamlike production designs of Baz Luhrmann and an occasional splash of demented David Cronenberg. However it is the darkly comic, technicolor, retro-chic, historical referentiality of Quentin Tarantino that seems to be the most apparent donor to Shield's cinematic-style. -- Rick Boost Digitalrev, November 14th, 2016 [a] brilliant, batty oeuvre -- Thomas Freeman Maxim, November 23, 2016 Tyler Shields' photography isn't a comment; his images don't end with a period. They end in a question mark... Shields pursues myriad situations that range from documentary to fantasy to somewhere between... Lavish scenes [are] connected by Shields' technical expertise, his arresting use of color, tone, contrast and composition. -- Carol Motsinger Cincinnati.com, December 9, 2016 unique and alluring shots featuring celebrities and models alike. -- Amanda Douville New York Daily News, December 12, 2016 his most striking works to date. -- Lena Rawley The New York Times Magazine, December 11, 2016 To put it mildly, the L.A.-based contemporary photographer, artist and filmmaker knows how to push people's buttons... Truly one of the most provocative contemporary photographers, Shields evocative images prove anything but subtle... Shields' list of fashionable faces and celebrity collaborations makes his photography remarkably attention-grabbing and eye-catching. -- Daniel Rodrigue Dallas Observer, January 2, 2017 'Bad boy' photographer Tyler Shields [is an] L.A.-based jack of all trades, [working] with Lindsay Lohan, Emma Roberts, Demi Lovato, Aaron Paul and plenty others -- Diamond Victoria Dallas Observer, January 3, 2017 Los Angeles based photographer Tyler Shields' work has made a big impression, whether it's his photographs of exploding Rolls Royces, alligators clamping their jaws on Birkin bags, or starlets flying through the air in impossibly beautiful arcs.Shields frequently combines the world of Hollywood glamour with his love for the acrobatic, creating a wonderful combustion of movement, color, and subject. Provocateur brings together in a single lavish volume his most compelling work to date, including a series of retro-style glamour portraits, ethereally decadent Marie Antoinette-inspired visions, and rustic woodland scenes that serve as a backdrop for modern-day nymphs.Unaffected by the feathers he ruffles, Tyler pushes his subjectsoften the young elite of Hollywoodand himself, to the limits, going well outside usual comfort zones. Tyler's daring, perceptiveness, and skill in getting his subjects to reveal themselves make these images unforgettable and truly provocative. L'Oeil de la Photographie, January 9, 2017
