About the Author

Pauline Sands was horn in Birmingham but spent a significant part of her life living and working abroad, notably in Norway and Bangladesh. She came to live in Alcester in 1.984 and spent the rest of her life there in the cottage which she purchased just off the High Street. The cottage she later converted into two flats once she found it difficult to negotiate the stairs, residing on the ground floor and letting out the first floor. She was I am told, the main motivator in the forming of Alcester Gardening Club and also had an allotment behind cottages in Bleach field Street. She devoted much of her time in the latter years working on this book spending many hours at Warwick Museum in the transcription of the documents found here. In fact it was her intention to move to Warwick she was in the course of purchasing sheltered accommodation there at the time of her final diagnosis.
