About the Author

Chris Maser spent over twenty-five years as a research scientist in natural history and ecology in forest, shrub steppe, sub-arctic, desert and coastal settings. Trained primarily as a vertebrate zoologist, he was a research mammalogist in Nubia, Egypt (1963-1964), with the Yale University Peabody Museum Prehistoric Expedition and was a research mammalogist in Nepal (1966-1967) for the U. S. Naval Medical Research Unit No. 3 based in Cairo, Egypt, where he participated in a study of tick-borne diseases. He conducted a three-year (1970-1973) ecological survey of the Oregon Coast for the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington. He was a research ecologist with the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management for twelve years (1975-1987)--the last eight studying old-growth forests in western Oregon, and a landscape ecologist with the Environmental Protection Agency for one year (1990-1991). Today he is an independent author of some twenty books, as well as an international lecturer, facilitator in resolving environmental disputes, vision statements, and sustainable community development. He is also an international consultant in forest ecology and sustainable forestry practices. Although he has worked in Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Slovakia, and Switzerland, he calls Corvallis, Oregon, home. She currently assists with the animal healing correspondence for the White Eagle Lodge in Montgomery, Texas, and contributes to the worldwide White Eagle magazine Stella Polaris and its journal of astrology, Altair. She is also an avid student of astrology, healing, and the Ancient Wisdom as taught by her spiritual teacher, White Eagle. Her interests include gardening, especially her large number of old garden and antique roses; hiking; writing; reading about the lives of the Masters and Saints; and enjoying a contented life with the three cats she and Chris have.

Reviews

"Unlike many other scientists, who spend their energy on their science and keep their own counsel, in this book Maser clearly and articulately applies his technical knowledge to his place in the world. "And, happily, he shares his philosophy with coherence and forthrightness. He's been thinking about humanity's place in the natural order of things for as long as he's been gardening." Bill Monroe, The Oregonian
