About the Author

Nicholas Boyle is Fellow and President of Magdalene College, Cambridge. He is Schroder Professor of German at the University. Professor Boyle is the author of a major award-winning three volume biography of Goethe and also of German Literature: A Very Short Introduction (OUP) and Who Are We Now? (University of Notre Dame Press). In 2000, he was awarded the Goethe Medal of the Goethe-Institute.
