[This] new cookbook/guide with easy recipes can help diabetics manage their disease. The cookbook, with its simple recipes, stresses the use of few ingredients and some basic cooking techniques. It offers guidance to help even the most unskilled cook put together a meal that is high in flavour and nutrition.... Every recipe includes exchange lists and there are menus to make meal planning easier.-- (07/13/2011)
A good cookbook for diabetics.--Herald Argus (06/28/2011)
Best for: Learning the important facts about diabetes, how you can work out a healthy meal plan, plus tips on choosing and preparing healthy foods.--Tri-City Herald (05/11/2011)
Did you know that Diabetes is a chronic disease that literally affects one out of ten people in North America...that's roughly 35 million people...and that number is always increasing. Eating healthy, especially when you have Diabetes, is key...but not always easy. For people, like me, who was diagnosed with Diabetes later in life, it is very difficult to change the way you eat. You do it because you have to, but it's hard and you have set backs...like the McFlurry I ate last night and then regretted 30 minutes later. You don't want to give up what you are used to eating. However, with amazing cookbooks like 250 Essential Diabetes Recipes by Sharon Zieler, you can have all that wonderful food you long for, but in a form that is healthy for your lifestyle. What I really like about this cookbook is the fact that all of the nutritional information that is pertinent for me when it comes to figuring out what I can and cannot eat, is right there. For example, the first thing I look at is the carbohydrate count. I only eat 45 or less carbs per meal. So if I look at a recipe and there is over 45 carbs per serving, I don't eat it. The other thing I really like about this cookbook is that a lot of the recipes have variations that you can take advantage of that makes more options for your family. For instance, a recipe may call for lean ground beef. One of the alternatives listed is to use extra lean ground beef and in doing so, you cut the fat by 4g's!-- (05/14/2011)
The ingredients are simple; found in any pantry, fridge, or local grocery story. I believe "250 Essential Diabetes Recipes" would be a good book to add to the cook's library. Recommended.-- (02/22/2011)
You'd be surprised at the range of recipes available in a new cookbook for diabetics. There's a recipe for Gouda Wafers, one for Saucy Ham-stuffed Potatoes and another for Chocolate Almond Cream Puffs in Canada's 250 Essential Diabetes Recipes. Author Sharon Zeiler (with the Canadian Diabetes Association) clearly believes that pleasure is an important part of healthy eating, whether you're diabetic or not. Her diabetic-friendly recipes have been created to be tasty, easy to make and nutritious... plus they're lower in sodium, higher in fibre and use healthy fats. There's also information on managing diabetes and how to work out a proper meal plan.-- (07/19/2011)
