The Bestselling New Detective Series of the Decade Just Got Hotter, Deadlier, and More Suspenseful. In a deadly late-night showdown, San Francisco police lieutenant Lindsay Boxer fires her weapon and sets off a dramatic chain of events that leaves a police force disgraced, a family destroyed, and Lindsay herself at the mercy of twelve jurors. During a break in the trial, she retreats to a picturesque town that is reeling from a string of grisly murders-crimes that bear a link to a haunting, unsolved case from her rookie years. Now, with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay must battle for her life on two fronts: in a trial rushing to a climax, and against an unknown adversary willing to do anything to hide the truth about the homicides-including kill again?

Home in Half Moon Bay while facing a charge of police brutality, Lt. Lindsay Boxer joins up with her Women's Murder Club friends to investigate a spate of killings. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Mega-bestseller Patterson teams up with journalist/novelist Paetro for a rousing fourth installment of the Women's Murder Club series. This time, bright, tough SFPD Lt. Lindsay Boxer is battling police brutality charges while chasing down a clan of murderers. When a botched police arrest of two gun-toting minors expands from a shaky preliminary hearing to what promises to be a nerve-rattling jury trial of Lindsay, she flees the pre-trial media frenzy for the serene haven of sister Cat's house in Half Moon Bay. But instead of finding relaxation and romance with her Homeland Security beau, Lindsay becomes embroiled in the ruthless crimes of a troika of killers who've been slashing and flogging victims all over town. With surprisingly little aid from the Murder Club, Lindsay performs her detective handiwork (and steps on the toes of Half Moon's police chief). As more bodies surface, sketchy suspects like a smitten grease monkey and a slimy porn star emerge, then the murderous threesome set their sights on Lindsay. Back in San Francisco, Lindsay is acquitted; she then rushes back to Half Moon Bay to apprehend the elusive villains and put to rest her unresolved first homicide case as well. Heroic super-sleuthing, a steadily gripping plot line and 146 snappy chapters add up to suspense fiction euphoria for Patterson's legion of fans. Another entry into the erratic Women's Murder Club series The 4th of July is a rather erratic and uneven story that starts out strongly but soon tails off into obscurity and worse. There are plenty of gory murders but thats about all there is to reccomend this frustrating supposed thriller.

I have to say that this series started out great but is definitely not holding my interest. Most significanty, this series is supposed to be about a woman's murder mystery club, however this installment was seriously lacking in that department. Claire showed up occasionally and Cindy was completely insignificant. I have only 10 pages left and am in no hurry to get get back to it.

James Patterson teams up here with Maxine Paetro to bring us the next installment of the Women's Murder Club series featuring Leiutenant Lindsey Boxer and her associates. The plot is well executed with a slick pace that keeps the pages turning. The final twist is delivered like a slap in the face and rounds the novel up into a nice, concise, enjoyable little package.
Another successful and highly readable novel from one of the most consistantly good murder mystery writers today.
