Alvin L. Lesser, after serving in the military, received a B.A. in Accounting from New York University. Alvin was a Certified Public Accountant in New York for over 35 years. He was also a licensed real estate broker and commercial property developer. Alvin has played and taught bridge for over 60 years. In 2011, Alvin wrote Basic Accounting Simplified, an award winning illustrated primer for beginning and struggling accounting students. The following year he wrote Memories of the Catskills: The Making of a Hotel, an award winning memoir about the rise and fall of the "Borscht Belt" in New York's Catskill Mountains. Lesser Lodge, a small hotel started by his mother and father where the author spent the better part of his childhood, lies at the center of this heartfelt tale. His next book, Quick Reference to Bridge Conventions, will be released next year. Brent Manley has played bridge for more than 40 years. After 20 years in the newspaper business, he went to work for the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). He retired in 2014 after 25 years, most of them as editor of the Bridge Bulletin. He is the author of seven bridge books.
This book is loaded with information about how to use - and avoid abusing - a long list of conventions. Even if you don't plan to use all of these bidding aids, familiarity with them will help you when you encounter opponents who are using them. Study carefully. Be prepared. Brent Manley, former editor of the ABLC Bridge Bulletin
