Chris Oxlade is an experienced author of non-fiction books for children. He has written more than 200 titles on science, technology, sports and hobbies, from encyclopedia articles to fun activity books.
Gr 6-8-These updated titles were originally published in 2002. Explanations are concise and clear without being oversimplified, and the arrangement is attractive and open. Colorful diagrams, drawings, and photographs appear on every page and nicely complement the texts. In addition, supplemental information appears in boxed areas. The open layout and large, bold type size will appeal to reluctant readers. The explanations and visuals provided for specific chemical reactions are especially helpful. Each volume includes anywhere from two to six simple experiments related to the subject at hand and a spread devoted to the periodic table of elements. The further-reading sections have been updated to include current Web sites and books. Solid additions, especially for libraries that do not own the first editions.-Maren Ostergard, King County Library System, Issaquah, WA Copyright 2007 Reed Business Information.
