Sonnet 71 (Shakespeare); Echo's Lament for Narcissus.
Two partsongs here from a young, possibly student, Vaughan Williams. They are both pleasant, of the Victorian part-song ilk, particularly the double-choir Echo's Lament for Narcissus. This has more than a hint of Pearsall about it, with its constant suspensions and lush harmonies. The edition, as with all in the Choral Programme series, is excellent. Music Teacher, September 2008
