After a successful career teaching children with severe behavioral
challenges, school counseling and school administration, Stephanie
Shaw now loves creating stories that range from quiet to quirky,
poetry to prose. When she isn't assisting door-to-door vacuum
cleaner vampire salesmen, taking cows on shopping trips for
muumuus, or helping garden slugs with their calligraphy, she can be
found at home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Visit her on the
web at StephanieShawAuthor.com.
Emilie Gill completed her MA in children's book illustration from
the Cambridge School of Art. She was a Highly Commended recipient
of the Macmillan Prize for Illustration and has been longlisted for
the World Illustration Awards. As a child, Emilie couldn't decide
whether she wanted to be a musician, a zookeeper, or a secret
agent. In her spare time, Emilie will most likely be found
befriending the local wildlife of Kentucky, where she lives. Follow
her on Instagram @emiliegilldraws and visit her on the web at

"Hen serves as a sympathetic stand-in for this satisfying story’s audience. Gill’s fine-lined illustrations . . . bring a visual pop to the pages. There’s much playful humor ("Hen appeased me with the peas!" says Fox in the end) in this entertaining take on the classic ‘Little Red Hen’ story."—The Horn Book
