About the Author

Regis Philbin is a cultural icon having remained in front of the television camera for more than 50 years! Regis began his talk show career in San Diego at KOGO in October of 1961. He joined Joey Bishop as his sidekick in 1967, then went on to A.M. Los Angeles which rose from the bottom to the top of the ratings for the seven years it aired (from 1974 through 1981.) In 1983 he began his Live Show with Regis on WABC in NYC. He was joined by Kathie Lee in 1985 and the show was nationally syndicated in 1988. In 2001, Regis was joined by Kelly Ripa and the program entered yet another new era as Live! with Regis and Kelly. The show in its various incarnations has remained one of the most watched television shows in America. Regis' is the face millions of viewers have woken up to on weekday mornings for nearly three decades. Not only has he reigned supreme in daytime, but he also took his success to nighttime when he hosted the ABC juggernaut Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, its spinoff Super Millionaire, and later NBC's America's Got Talent as well as the CBS revival of Password, Million Dollar Password. In addition to hosting the red carpet arrivals at the 2008 Academy Awards for ABC, Regis has also hosted the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Philbin has won four Emmy Awards and is the proud recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a Broadcasting and Cable Lifetime Achievement Award, a TV Guide Award as Personality of the Year, the Walter Camp Distinguished American Award at Yale University, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2006 Regis was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and later that year was selected by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to be inducted into the Television Academy's Hall of Fame. Philbin is also the 2009 Guinness World Record holder for Most Hours on Camera, with now more than 16,600 cumulative hours under his belt. In addition to his success in the talk show and game show worlds, Regis is also a bestselling author having previously published two books of his own and two books with Kathie Lee Gifford. A native of New York City, he is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the recipient of an honorary doctorate of law degree for his contributions to Notre Dame and the city of South Bend. Regis lives in New York with his lovely wife Joy.
