About the Author

Duncan Thomson was from 1982 until his retirement in 1997 Keeper of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. His major study Arikha was awarded the Scottish Arts Council's 1995 Spring Book Award. Stephen Coppel is Assistant Keeper with responsibility for the modern collection of prints and drawings at the British Museum. He is the author of Linocuts of the Machine Age: Claude Flight and the Grosvenor School and a contributor to Fred Williams: An Australian Vision.
