There is nothing conventional about the path Dennis Porter traveled to produce the Be You Success System. His resume is anything but a "who is who" of academic achievement. His name cannot be found in any trade journal of medicine; i.e. philosophy, psychology, genetics, biochemistry or religious studies. Yet, his understanding of the corroboration of these disciplines is confirmed by experts in these fields. Call him a phenomenon or a fraud, Dennis Porter is what he is and those who know him are anything but surprised by his work. What is most intriguing is how his knowledge came to be. Strangely enough, he spent 18 years of his adult life behind bars. At 17 he took a turn from beloved academic prospect to public enemy number one. As a juvenile he was sentenced to life in prison for his participation in a robbery that resulted in a death. Dennis knew that his survival demanded that he make a dramatic change as an omen of misfortune surrounded him. In the first 8 years of incarceration his older brother fell victim to gun violence, while his mother at 45 years old succumbed to cancer. With little to turn to Dennis reflected on an enlightening encounter he'd had the prior year of his arrest. Author Al Dickens suggested to him that success lay in self examination, something Dennis now had plenty of time to review. In the 11th year of his sentence Dennis founded Prodigal Sons and Daughters Redirection Services (a six point plan for personal and social redemption). The program became his catalyst to freedom, recruiting thousands of prisoners ready to abandon their criminal pasts and become models of reform. In June of 1995 he was granted an early release on good behavior and thus began the public's embrace of Prodigal Sons and Daughters, followed by media stories, numerous awards leading to six office locations and eventually a statewide graduation program. In 2007 he made history by becoming Newark, NJ's first Director of Prisoner Re-entry under Mayor (now Senator Cory Booker). In 2011, after years of advocacy and awards, including a NJ State Senate Proclamation, he founded The Dennis Porter Project and proceeded to develop the Be You Success System: 6 Steps to Creating Your Personal Success Formula. He returned to Prodigal Sons and Daughters in 2013 as the Chief Operating Officer and is now touring, lecturing and conducting workshops in both the non-profit and for profit communities. In 2014 PSD became a Columbia University Affiliate.
