Richard Grimmett, Carol Inskipp and Tim
Inskipp are names synonymous with birdwatching in the Indian
Subcontinent. All three are widely travelled in Asia and have
contributed to numerous field guides to the constituent parts of
the region.
Hem Sagar Baral is a leading expert on the birds of southern
Asia. For four years, he worked as a naturalist at Royal Chitwan
National Park before completing a diploma in geology at Tribhuvan
University and then earning a PhD for his work on the lowland
grassbirds in Nepal. Until 2023 Hem was the ZSL's representative in
Nepal.
This a thoroughly revised and updated edition of what is now
claimed to be, surely justifiably, the most comprehensive guide to
the birds of Nepal. Not only have the texts been completely
rewritten, but they face the illustrations (many replaced) of more
than 790 species on the plates.
*Ibis*
This is a very useful book, and if you are heading to Nepal for the
first time, an essential addition to the hand luggage. If you have
been before and are heading back, it is well worth upgrading from
the first edition.
