About the Author
Sarah Addington (1891-1940) went to Earlham College where she
received a A.B. degree in 1912. Sarah, writing under her maiden
name, Sarah Addington, wrote a series of children's books which
became popular. Following her graduation from Earlham she attended
Columbia University where she graduated as the only women member of
the first class of the Pulitzer School of Journalism. In 1915, she
became special writer for the Sunday magazine section of the New
York Tribune and later was assistant publicity director of the
National American Women Suffrage Association. In 1917, when New
York State granted the vote to women, she resigned to marry. Miss
Addington continued her newspaper career under her maiden name
after her marriage, serving in the city staff of the Tribune, and
later entering the publicity field. From 1921 to 1923 she was on
the staff of The Ladies Home Journal.
Reviews
"The reissue of a sweet 1922 book by suffragette and journalist
Sarah Addington, Pudding Lane jams in every classic fairy tale
character from Tommy Tucker to Bo-Peep."--The Akron Beacon
Journal
A delightful combination of nursery rhymes and fantasy tells the
origins of Santa Claus. Children and adults will love this
delightful story with its beautiful illustrations. A very fun
read.--Lily Greer, book reviewer
In this very unique and imaginative version of Santa's childhood,
Sarah touches hearts with her combination of Santa lore and Mother
Goose. How can you go wrong with that combination? You can't. This
story answers many questions children have about Santa...Where did
he grow up? Does he have any brother or sisters? Has he always made
toys? Living in Old King Cole's kingdom, Santa grows up with all
the favorite
nursery rhyme characters: baker, candlestick maker, Jack Sprat,
fiddlers three, Mistress Mary, and his grandmother, Mother Goose.
The incorporation of these familiar nursery rhyme friends helps
make the story more believable. [...] I think The Boy Who Lived in
Pudding Lane should be an addition to all Christmas
libraries.--Janie Doss, educator
Now a cherished heirloom passed down through several generations, I
am excited to see this book back in print.--Claudia C. Breland,
Masters Library Sciences
