About the Author

Lori Doody was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland in 1976. She majored in printmaking at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, in Corner Brook, and graduated in 1998. Since then she has worked at: a Japanese paper store, the artist-run centre St. Michaels Printshop, and a commercial gallery. Her primary art practise has been in printmaking, especially etching, and in 2005 she was named Emerging Artist of the year by the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. Her printwork can be found in galleries in Canada and in New York City. To date, she has published five children's books with Running the Goat Capelin Weather; The Puffin Problem; Mallard, Mallard, Moose; Paint the Town Pink; and Mr. Beagle Goes to Rabbittown. All of them have been warmly and widely praised for their playful wit, bright and quirky illustrations, and gentle sense of kindness and community. In 2021, Lori will have three new books: Catalina, and Mr. Beagle and the Georgestown Mystery (published by Running the Goat), and The Land Puffin (published by Nimbus Publishing). Lori currently lives in St. Johns with her husband and their two children.

Reviews

"Beautifully illustrated, Capelin Weather - a book where imagination and story meet, a delight for readers of any age." Joan Clark, author of Snow, and Thomasina and the Trout Tree, and of An Audience of Chairs and The Birthday Lunch

"Some books coming out of smaller presses are unfortunately immediately discounted, but Capelin Weather proves that, when given a chance, these small presses can sometimes create magic." Alex Mathewson, in CM Magazine

"Both children and adults will relate to Kates countdown and anxious anticipation of the upcoming summer, and all the fun that follows." Lyla Hage, in Atlantic Books Today

"Newfoundland and Labrador is a wonderful place for children to grow up. They have the opportunity to enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer, from the land to the sea. Spring, however, can be a bit challenging to get outside, as Lori Doody's book so creatively explains. The book is fun, colourful, and educational. Enjoy!" Ryan Snoddon, (former) CBC-NL meteorologist

"From her story to her boldly-coloured art, Lori Doody gets the flavour just right..." Helen Kubiw, on CanLit for LittleCanadians
