About the Author

Kip Mesirow is a metal craftsman who studied joinery with Makoto Imai, the highly regarded teahouse builder. Ron Herman is a prominent landscape designer who studied the history of Japanese gardens at Kyoto University and has been teaching at UC Berkeley in the departments of architecture and landscape architecture as a visiting lecturer for 20 years.
