The Home Economics Institute of Australia (HEIA) NSW Division,
formerly known as the NSW Cookery Teachers' Association, was
established in 1910. Members of the Association who worked in the
public education system at the time were the original authors of
The Commonsense Cookery Book, first published in 1914.
The HEIA NSW Division places great importance on its role of
updating and maintaining The Commonsense Cookery Book, and ensuring
its usefulness for future generations. This significant and
cherished book remains a valuable resource for home economists in
professional, community and family contexts alike. Home economists
proudly play important roles in advocating for food and education
systems that promote the health and wellbeing of individuals,
families and communities.
