About the Author

Joseph P. Byrd IV retired from the United Parcel Service following a career in marketing research and eight years as a college professor. Born in Savannah, he is a seventh-generation Georgian with fifteen direct and collateral ancestors who served in the Confederate Army, including Major William E. Simmons. Over the years, Byrd has presented numerous programs on Southern History and the Civil War. He resides in Cumming, Georgia, USA.
