“Exquisite prose points a poetic biographical sketch of an enigma
in early church ancestry. The fictional memoir is peppered with
intriguing history...”
*RT Book Reviews*
“In this gripping, beautifully written historical novel, Wolfe
brings the ancient city of Carthage to life, immersing readers in
the experiences that shaped the theology of Augustine of Hippo. In
her deftly told and well-researched story, the unnamed woman whom
Augustine loved and lived with for 13 years rises from the
footnotes of history to become a dynamic, fully-fleshed character.

“Readers will come to love this daughter of a mosaic layer, who
chooses to become the concubine of a young teacher named Augustine…
A perfect book for history lovers, readers of Image magazine, which
Wolfe helped found, and anyone looking for a stirring tale of love
under wraps.”
*Publishers Weekly*
“This interesting story was unique since the narrator is anonymous
throughout the entire novel.”

“Wolfe does a good job at creating a historical character that
would rightly suit Augustine... Overall, Suzanne M. Wolfe’s The
Confessions of X gives a rare glimpse into a forgotten woman in
history, bringing to her life for the masses. The story could have
been ripped from the pages of Augustine’s Confessions if he would
have told the truth. I really enjoyed this book...”
