About the Author

John Sutherland is Lord Northcliffe Professor Emeritus, UCL, and has for many years been a visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology. He is the author of many books and writes and reviews widely in the UK and US. His recent work includes 'Lives of the Novelists: A History of Fiction in 294 Lives' (2011) and 'A Little History of Literature'(2013).
