About the Author

Joy Damousi is Professor of History and ARC Laureate Fellow at the University of Melbourne. She has published widely on aspects of women’s history, the aftermaths of war, and the history of migration and refugees. Her current research is on a history of child refugees and Australian inter­nationalism during the twentieth century. She is President of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and President of the Australian Historical Association. Judith Smart, Adjunct Professor at RMIT University, is Deputy Chair of the History Council of Victoria. She co-edits the Victorian Historical Journal with Richard Broome, co-authored with Marian Quartly Respectable Radicals: A History of the National Council of Women of Australia 1896–2006, and co-edited with Shurlee Swain The Encyclopedia of Women and Leadership in Twentieth-Century Australia.
