Reviews

"Taking inspiration from high-drama westerns set in dusty towns and parched deserts, Doremus (Bear Despair) returns with another entry in the Stories Without Words series. Like its wordless predecessors, the book's squat, horizontally oriented format emphasizes the sense of a journey. [...] Quavery pencil lines in pinks and golds emphasize the dry heat of the setting, while beguiling details...make this a memorable Wild West love story. Ages 4--8." -- Publishers Weekly "This wordless tale of a Wild West showdown has plenty of surprises. [...] Doremus's cross-hatched pencil illustrations, in dusty shades of yellow and orange, reflect the arid landscape. While this chase-and-escape story poses more questions than answers, readers will enjoy the dreamlike journey." -- School Library Journal "Silly, surreal fun: Deeper meanings, if any, are well-concealed, but who needs 'em?" --Kirkus Reviews
