Susan Winters Smith was born in Norwood, Massachusetts, grew up in Central Vermont in the little village of Shady Rill, and has lived in Connecticut with her husband Stephen for most of her adult life. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1965 and the University of Vermont in 1969, later earning a Master's degree from St. Joseph College in West Hartford. She has written stories and poems all of her life, while going to school, raising three children, caring for a handicapped uncle, and working in the fields of Special Education, free-lance Journalism and Social Work. Susan is a member of NWU, CAPA, IPNE and LVW. She is also a member of the Abenaki Clan of the Hawk and the Enfield Congregational Church. Her many interests include genealogy, gardening, nature, environmentalism, spirituality, photography, art and music. Susan has had articles and poetry published in newspapers and genealogical journals. She self-published a mystery novel, "The Mystery at Seymour Lake Lodge" in 2010.
