About the Author

JIM DUGGAN spent almost a quarter of his working life in the driver training business both as a first class driving instructor and latterly involved in the training of instructors. With a pass rate of 78% at a time when the general pass rate was only 32% he has a proven track record which served his pupils well. He has estimated having driven well over one million miles since passing his test in 1965 and with all the experience that gives an astute observer he has a wealth of knowledge to pass on to learner drivers. Having now retired from the practical side of the business he has prepared this book which has a simple straightforward approach to learning to drive which pupils should find an invaluable supplement to their practical lessons. Jim realised learner drivers needed more than just practical driving lessons. They needed something more tangible to support what they were being told in the lessons which they could take home and study at their leisure. He identified the solution as being the need for an easy to follow set of lesson plans set out in a logical and progressive order with the emphasis being on visual images rather than written texts, the latter only being there to support the visuals. He was a great believer in the maxim that "What you hear you will forget, what you see you will remember and what you do you will learn." Suitable material to fit his vision of what he felt was required did not seem to be available in the bookshops so, using one of his other minor talents as a draftsman/illustrator, he set about rectifying the problem himself by producing what he called a Visual Aids Manual. Instructors were able to use the new format to great effect by flipping to each illustration in a controlled and logical order ensuring that all the important points were adequately covered and passed on to the pupils. They in turn learned quicker because they could see what was required rather than simply having their ears bent with a lot of verbal instructions. Because they learned quicker it had the added advantage of saving money by reducing the number of lessons required before they passed their test. Here is the printed version of his manual specifically prepared for learner drivers - 'Easy Lessons for Learner Drivers'
