About the Author

Although this book is complete in its own right, it is the consequence of a much greater endeavour. I wrote most of my first novel - Beyond the Veil - in the autumn and winter of 2002-2003. During the following winter, I wrote several books, one of which was Fay. By that time, I was receiving requests to write a sequel to Beyond the Veil, but I was too involved in ongoing projects. At the end of 2006, I made a start on the much-requested sequel, but as the tale began to unfold, I realised that it was to be the culmination of the story that had emerged in Beyond the Veil and the quite separate story that had evolved in the writing of Fay. It was then that I realised that those two novels were 'companion' books - their content running in parallel, never touching, yet expressing many of the same positive qualities of human experience. The characters in these books express attributes to which many of us aspire - kindness and concern, compassion, honesty, co-operation and commitment. Although faced with much adversity, in situations that cannot be readily explained, they do all they can to support one another, and what springs from this experience is beyond price. Emily is a character in Beyond the Veil who was then but a toddler, and she made only a few appearances. In this book - Emily - she is the central character. It is not long before she becomes aware of something that links her to the core of the story of Fay...
