Jean Abernethy has been producing equestrian-related drawings, horse portraits, and horse cartooning for more than 30 years. She has illustrated several books and instructional articles, technical how-to drawings, and diagrams for instructional purposes. She has also done children's and fantasy illustration. Her work has taken her coast-to-coast to farms and equestrian events where she's been involved with a wide variety of horse breeds, sports and disciplines.
'This book was a fun and quick read. I enjoyed learning more about
Jean Abernethy the artist, and of course, I loved reading some of
my all-time favorite Fergus comics that are also included in the
book'.
'This book has both writhing, which explains the backstory to the
creation of Fergus and numerous popular comics in addition to some
book exclusives. Abernathy's cartoons are known for their
reliability to the horse lover's life.'
'Fergus makes us laugh, whether he is bedeviled by flies or
explaining to his rider the benefits of falling off: 'You wanted to
practice groundwork and flatwork and you wanted to practice without
stirrups. And there you are...flat on the ground and with no
stirrups. Looks like a success to me!'
'Every equestrian home needs a reminder that all horses provide
humor and when your humor has been exhausted by your own horse's
antics - then just remind yourself by flicking through The
Essential Fergus that they are probably all from the same
mold.'
'Have you seen Fergus the Horse? If not, you're in for a treat. ...
Abernethy portrays Fergus with bright, colorful illustrations that
will enthrall readers of all ages. You'll likely recognize your own
horse in his amusing predicaments.'
'How cool to have Fergus and his buddies corralled in one spot!
I've enjoyed his escapades so much over the years. This book will
be a great way to enjoy them again and share them with others.'
*Christine Hamilton, Editor*
'I've only recently become acquainted with Fergus, but we
immediately hit it off. He's just the kind of horse I like to get
to know and figure out--not afraid to speak his mind, a great sense
of humour, and he can teach us all a thing or two. Horses have
always been my greatest teachers...but Fergus is the first animated
one!'
*Jonathan Field, Trainer, Clinician, and Author of The Art of
Liberty Training for Horses*
