This volume gathers together some of F. R. Leavis's earliest work with the things he was working on before his death.
This collection of essays, reviews, articles, and lectures by one of our great critics contains previously unpublished material that is difficult to find. Included are some early studies of T. S. Eliot and D. H. Lawrence, which can be considered along with mature essays on these same writers. In addition are discussions of George Eliot, Henry James, W. B. Yeats, and William Wordsworth. Of particular note are the late essays, which formulate and examine the nature of criticism and Leavis's approach to it. This excellent collection allows readers to trace Leavis's critical views over a period of several decades. Essential for academic libraries and highly recommended for other collections.Nancy R.
