Gr 3-6-Well-organized overviews of how celebrations are conducted in different parts of the world. Each book generally covers the region's main food crops; specific holidays and festivals, many of which are connected to the harvest; and special dishes. The most useful sections are the recipes, which are easy enough for young readers to make. Each page has one or two paragraphs of text and full-color photos that show people from each country cultivating, harvesting, selling, or preparing various foods for special holidays. Good choices for students who would like to approach their reports by presenting ethnic foods to their classmates, or for those students and teachers who want to better understand the way other cultures celebrate their heritage.-Betsy Barnett, Eads School District, CO Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
