About the Author

Lisa Jewell is the Sunday Times bestselling author of sixteen books, including her most recent novel, the Sunday Times bestseller Watching You. She lives in London with her husband and two children.

Reviews

Three rather spoiled brothers find that sometimes life just isn't fair. Tony London is divorced and overweight. Why can his girlfriend eat anything and not gain an ounce? Sean's fianc?e is pregnant. He wants to go to a club, and Millie claims to be tired! "Sean's sympathy reserves were being rapidly drained. I mean, how exhausting could it actually be, carrying a small cluster of cells around inside you?" Ned has just returned from Australia, where he dumped his mentally ill girlfriend. Unfortunately, she's not taking it well and has been sending Ned packets of her hair and toenail clippings. And who's this guy sleeping in his bed in his parents' house? Why, that's Gervase, the lodger, a man Ned's mother met in a bar and brought home. And if the reader isn't driven as mad as Ned's ex by all the whining the London brothers do, they can follow along as Gervase dispenses sound advice and solves everyone's problems before moving on, rather like Mary Poppins in a black leather jacket. The occasional humor here doesn't compensate for shallow characters, an unbelievable plot, and facile happy ending. Jewell is the author of One-Hit Wonder.-Elizabeth Mellett, Brookline P.L., MA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
