Reviews

USA Today From A Buick 8 is vintage King....[He] knows how to jolt his readers.

This novel, which starts out sounding like a ghost tale, rapidly turns into a typical King story of a mysterious, deadly, not-of-this-world classic Buick 8 Roadster. The car, which appears out of nowhere, interferes with state police radio and television reception; provides mysterious and frightening light shows; spits out strange, dead-smelling objects; and is suspected of being involved in the death or disappearance of people, animals, and various inanimate objects. Narrators James Rebhorn, Becky Ann Baker, Fred Sanders, and others make this more dramatization than reading. The variety of voices makes it easy for the listener to keep the six different characters straight. Without background music, the readers' slow-paced speech patterns combine with the story line to create the stark atmosphere. The listener is forced to pay close attention, as sentences are not repeated at the beginning of each tape or side change. Recommended for King fans and all public libraries.-Laurie Selwyn, Law Lib., Grayson Cty., Sherman, TX Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
