Dustin Jones is a professor of mathematics education at Sam Houston State University. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Missouri and his M.S. in mathematics from Texas A&M University. His professional areas of interest include mathematics education, statistics education, textbook analysis, teaching mathematics with technology, mathematics teacher preparation, and teacher professional development.
Fundamentals of Calculus for Teachers provides valuable insights
for introducing key calculus concepts to students before they
experience formulas. This fosters their conceptual knowledge,
helping them make connections and encouraging a productive
disposition toward mathematics. The book also focuses on current
technologies such as Desmos and GeoGebra--free and readily
accessible to all teachers and students--which aid in reinforcing
key calculus concepts."Shannon Driskell, Ph.D. Professor of

"Fundamentals of Calculus for Teachers should be the required
textbook for all preservice middle level mathematics teachers in
the U.S. Dr. Dustin Jones' approach explicitly aligns the key
concepts from calculus with their related topics in the middle
school curriculum, allowing preservice teachers to readily see the
salient connections. What makes this textbook particularly unique
is the way that various modes of technology are weaved throughout
the course in the form of inquiry-based tasks to support the
conceptual understanding of calculus. I taught two semesters of a
calculus for teachers course using the draft of this textbook, and
I highly recommend it!"Jackie Murawska, Ed.D. STEM Instructional

"Fundamentals of Calculus for Teachers by Dustin Jones fills a
much-needed gap in middle school mathematics teachers' content
knowledge. It provides a deep conceptual development of fundamental
calculus ideas and ties them to aspects of the middle school
mathematics curriculum. More importantly, the textbooks uses
mathematical technology such as Desmos and GeoGebra to aid students
in their conceptual development. I have used draft versions of this
book for the past four years and have been very happy with it."Dr.
