About the Author

László Erdős was born in 1982. He became passionate about the natural world at the age of seven, thanks to a wildlife book he received from his mother. He graduated as a biologist and earned a PhD in vegetation ecology. His research expertise includes conservation implications of spatial heterogeneity in natural and near-natural ecosystems. He is also interested in environmental ethics and the history of the green movement. He is an animal lover, a vegetarian, and an ardent supporter of animal rights. Currently he is a research fellow at the Institute of Ecology and Botany of the MTA Centre for Ecological Research (Vácrátót), a research fellow at the MTA-DE Lendület Functional and Restoration Ecology Research Group (Debrecen), and a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest). He often gives popular presentations on conservation issues.

László lives in rural Hungary with his wife Dolly and a rescued cat named Marci.
