About the Author

Janet Nesler is a freelance poet, writer and photographer from Sciotoville, OH, and is a Fine Arts graduate of Shawnee State University and holds an Accounting degree from Portsmouth Business College. Her expression of poetry reflects the often un-spoken perception of life, revealing compassion that so often goes implied and never voiced in words. Reality is the inspiration of her verse, the tangible pulse of the heart. Hundreds of her poems have appeared in various publication including LADIES HOUSEHOLD MAGAZINE, BACK HOME IN KENTUCKY and PARNASSUS LITERARY JOURNAL. For the last twenty years she has inspired new poets through her editorial poetry column, THE POET'S PLATFORM for THE SCIOTO VOICE NEWSPAPER. Her former work as an experienced news photographer has given her an understanding of hopes, dreams, struggles of local residence which received her an ASSOCIATED PRESS AWARD for NEWS PHOTO ESSAY for the PORTSMOUTH DAILY TIMES. As a former twenty year editor of PORTSMOUTH DAILY TIMES poetry column, Janet has given voice to so many new and established poets of the tri-state area. With several national poetry awards her poetry has appeared in THE NEW YORK POETRY SOCIETY and THE NATIONAL POETRY ANTHOLOGY. With the directive and help of THE OHIO ARTS COUNCIL, Janet has traveled to numerous school districts giving poetry presentations to students, cultivating the knowledge of verse, to express their talents through the written word and publishing their works within her local poetry columns. As one of the original founders, Janet presided as Poetry Editor and Photography Editor for THE SHAWNEE SILHOUETTE, a literary journal for SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY for several years. She was actively involved with the University's Award winning newspaper THE OPEN AIR as Photo editor and Writer. Freelancing she was a regular photographer for GOOD OLD DAYS MAGAZINE and a stringer for ASHLAND DAILY INDEPENDENT newspaper. Before reiring she worked for COPY-RITE PRINTING AND GRPHICS photographing and developing Real Estate photos for the Multiple Listing Book for the area. Janet is now a widow with four grown children and four rambunctious dogs. Her latest achievements is the award of becoming a KENTUCKY COLONEL.
