Iris Nowell's background in art is extensive. She has worked as an art consultant on major projects for the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario, as well as in the private sector. She was the art researcher for Tom Thomson: The Silence of the Storm by Harold Town and David Silcox. Her book Hot Breakfast for Sparrows: My Life with Harold Town, was hailed by The Toronto Star as "one of the finest memoir biographies of the last few years." Her book Joyce Wieland: A Life in Art has been a staple of women's studies programs in universities across Canada. Her book Painters Eleven: The Wild Ones of Canadian Art is now in its third printing. Nowell lives in Toronto.
