A lunatic dressed as Santa starts preying on people who have used a particular New York dating service. Lieutenant Eve Dallas not only has to solve the case - she also has to navigate her first Christmas as a married woman and answer the question of what to buy for a husband who could literally afford a small country if he wanted to...The scenes where Eve buys little gifts along the way as she investigates and Peabody splutters indignation are very funny, and the underlying case is well plotted.

Holiday in Death by J D Robb.
It is approaching Christmas in the year 2058, Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the New York Police and Security Department, homicide division, is called out to what turns out to be a murder. What confronts her when she arrives is the grotesque sight of a young woman who has be brutally raped and murdered, then tied up with a bow and decorated. Also on her body is a silver charm that has a partridge in a pear tree. Soon, across town, another body is found, exactly the same, except this time the charm has two calling birds on it. Thus begins another bizarre and frightening case for Eve Dallas.
On the security tapes for the apartments the only person seen entering and leaving the victims apartments is somebody dressed as Santa Claus. This person had the audacity to look into the camera and wink before the crime, taunting the police. Dallas is determined to stop him and end this holiday horror.
With the aid of her team, including the ever reliable Peabody, and occasionally with help from her billionaire husband, Roark, Lieutenant Dallas attempts to track down the killer before too many more people die at the hands of this killer Santa.
J D Robb has once again out done herself, creating another exciting, chilling and at times fun and sensual story of police work in the near future. Holiday in Death is well written and beautifully created. I can’t get enough of the Lieutenant Eve Dallas stories. I’m always waiting for the next one to arrive.
