About the Author
Written by a close-knit team, the authors have great experience
in teaching and examining Human Resources at undergraduate,
postgraduate, and professional levels, as well as ownership of

Derek Torrington is an Emeritus Professor of
Management at the University of Manchester, Chartered Companion for
the CIPD, and previous Chief Examiner.
Laura Hall is a freelance academic and has
carried out work for a wide range of bodies, including the
CIPD.
Stephen Taylor is a senior lecturer in HRM at
the University of Exeter Business School and a Chartered Companion
for the CIPD.
Carol Atkinson is a Professor of HRM and
Associate Dean for Research at Manchester Metropolitan University
Business School. She is also a member of the CIPD Manchester Branch
Committee.
