DAVID OMISSI is Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Hull. Before moving to Hull, he was Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. His previous books include The Sepoy and the Raj: The Indian Army, 1860-1940 (Macmillan, 1994).
