About the Author

Sonia Farmer is a writer, visual artist, and small press publisher who uses letterpress printing, bookbinding, hand-papermaking, and digital projects to build narratives about the Caribbean space. Text always drives these narratives. Whether she uses her own written work or the work of others, she lets the words inform the structure, imagery, and materials for the final project. She is the founder of Poinciana Paper Press, which produces handmade and limited edition chapbooks of Caribbean literature and promotes the crafts of book arts through workshops and creative collaborations. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout Nassau including at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, Hillside House, Doongalik Studios, and the Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery. Her books can be found in various public and private collections and libraries, including the Dawn Davies Collection, The Baha Mar Art Collection, and in the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia. She is the author of "Infidelities" (Poinciana Paper Press, 2017) and several chapbooks. Her poetry has won the 2011 Prize in the Small Axe Literary Competition and has appeared in various journals including tongues of the ocean, Small Axe, Poui, and The Caribbean Writer. She holds a BFA in Writing from Pratt Institute where the won the thesis award for an outstanding collection of poetry from her department. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Book Arts at the University of Iowa.

Reviews

"Sonia Farmer's Infidelities is a luminous mining of the Anne Bonny pirate legend. As Farmer moves seamlessly between the past and the present, Bonny becomes both every woman and the unnamed narrator navigating what it means to love. Long after the last page has been turned, these poems will continue to unfold in the mind. A wonderful debut."- Sharon Millar, author of The Whale House and Other Stories
