Valentina D’Efilippo is a multi-disciplinary designer with an
appetite for creativity and innovation – across all formats and
media. After studying industrial design in Italy, she moved to
London and gained a post-graduate degree in graphic design. Since
then, her passion for visual communication and digital media has
taken form in data visualisation, art direction, and interactive
design. She has worked with a number of leading agencies
contributing to award-winning campaigns for global brands looking
to sell more cars, oil and beer. Valentina founded London-based
Italika Design in 2011.
James Ball is a multi-award-winning data journalist working on the Guardian’s investigations team. He was a core journalist on several of the newspaper’s data-driven investigations, including the Reading the Riots project, its reporting on WikiLeaks’ Guantánamo Bay files, and the Offshore Secrets series. Before joining the Guardian, he worked with Channel 4 Dispatches, Panorama and ITN with the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, and was a freelancer working for WikiLeaks during its publication of 250,000 US embassy cables. James is a lecturer on City University’s Interactive and Investigative Journalism courses, and lives and works in central London.
