Hay is an immensely popular Australian food writer and author-somewhat like Nigella Lawson in style-with seven other cookbooks to her credit, as well as her own magazine. Like her earlier books (Off the Shelf, New Food Fast), this one features simple but sophisticated recipes and a striking design. The food is quick-Lemon and Parsley Chicken, Spaghetti with Cherry Tomato Sauce, Chocolate French Toast-but not quite "instant." Still, with its dozens of fresh ideas (there are 175 recipes or so, many with variations) and inviting color photographs, this is recommended for most collections.
