Reviews

"Singletary has composed a beautifully written text (her prose at times rises to level of Mallarme's and Baudelaire's) that may complement recent work into Whistler's international connections."--Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide"Suzanne Singletary's fascinating study is the first to dig deeply into the subsoil and range of Whistler's relationships with France. ... [It] is an important contribution to Whistler studies that also enriches understanding of some of the leading names of nineteenth-century modernism."--CAA Reviews
